Summer Reading 1/7

Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine

I finally bought Ella Enchanted!  Over the years, my friends have told me that the book is better than the movie.  I haven’t seen the movie, but the book definitely satisfied my need for something light and happy.  The story is charming—I will definitely reread it.

That fool of a fairy Lucina did not intend to lay a curse on me.  She meant to bestow a gift.  When I cried inconsolably through my first hour of life, my tears were her inspiration.  Shaking her head sympathetically at Mother, the fairy touched my nose.  “My gift is obedience.  Ella will always be obedient.  Now stop crying, child.”  I stopped.
