About the Artist
I am Sarah L. Yoon; I live in Southern California with my husband, son, and airedale terrier. I’m the intense, driven one, and husband is the chill, care-free one. Meet the planner and the improviser. Together we garden, hunt tide pools, play video games, scrounge the forgotten treasures of life, and obsess over kimchi-jjigae.
I have a degree in English, more articles published than I can count, and a growing art practice. My faith informs all of my art, even though most of my art is not faith themed. I’ve heard a lot of nice sounding, inspirational testimonies in my life, ones that make Christian culture proud.
Mine is not quite so tidy.
Well intentioned, Christian people almost killed my faith by breaking my heart and keeping me in a box so they could keep me under control, but it turns out that my faith doesn’t rely on people being good. It relies on God being good. And God won’t let me stay broken, sitting in a box.
I have experienced emotional neglect and spiritual abuse, and I spend my days undoing that harm by learning to love my family well, learning to channel healing into art, and relearning how to read God’s word.
I would love for my hard work to become a service for you, because none of us have to be alone in this journey.
Dandelion Lab: Where Joy Grows Wild
Created by Sarah L. Yoon
Dandelions are weeds, sure, but have you seen how pretty they are? How resilient? How undeterred? They say “we will spread beauty, no matter what.”
I plan on doing the same.
This determination is rooted in faith in Jesus, love for my biracial family, and investment in mental health. I’ve spent plenty of years worrying about being “too much,” but these three forces keep bending my energy toward becoming more dandelion. Scattered, enthused, ready to grow, and quite excited to share all the work that comes out of the lab.
